Diagnostic and Imaging Services
Staffed by Board Certified Radiologists, an interventional radiologist-- the only one in Texarkana, and radiology technologists, Wadley's Diagnostic and Imaging Center assists physicians with the most sophisticated equipment available to identify disease or injury within the body.
There are five unique imaging modalities available:
- Computerized Tomography (CT),
- Nuclear Medicine
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Ultrasound
- Diagnostic X-Ray
Wadley Regional Medical Center recently added the newest generation MR to its diagnostic weaponry, and is the only hospital in Texarkana to permanently house both an open and closed MRI.
Our ultra-modern Cardiac Cath Lab at Wadley is equipped with the latest diagnostic innovations to detect and treat obstructive cardiovascular plaque, using the AngioJet.
Mammography services are provided in a private, personal setting by female technologists certified by the American College of Radiology. Our breast imaging services use a low-dose technique, the safest and most reliable diagnostic procedure available to detect abnormalities in the breast. In cases where an abnormality is found, Wadley exclusively offers the stereotactic needle biopsy system - a revolutionary new alternative to surgical biopsy. Women who choose the outpatient stereotactic biopsy can literally leave with a Band-Aid in place and return to their normal daily activities.
Ultrasound-guided breast biopsies using the Mammotome are also a welcome option for women who require biopsy examination to detect the presence of abnormal tissue.
Wadley Regional Medical Center is deeply committed to women's breast health and has recently invested in some of the latest technology available to diagnose breast cancer, including:
- MR Coil which allows MR studies of the breast to be carried out. This imaging method is very useful, especially when looking at a suspicious area in very dense breast tissue. The MR coil is very helpful in treatment planning prior to surgery, for women who have a known breast cancer.
- Portable mammotome which can be used in conjunction with the stereotactic needle biopsy or ultrasound needle guided biopsies.
- Neoprobe Gamma Dectector allows the surgeon to map the lymphatic system to determine if a patient has metastasis or spread of the breast cancer to the axillary lymph nodes, without surgically removing all of the nodes. This is especially beneficial, eliminating the chances of lymphedema and cosmetic disfigurement.
The next piece of equipment Wadley will add to our breast imaging weaponry is the R2 image checker which is a computer-assisted overread of the mammogram. The film is fed into the computer, and it marks any suspicious areas on the film for the radiologist to study. Since the recent release of this technology, the R2 checker has increased the incidence of detecting breast cancer by over 20%.
Wadley recognizes that women have important health concerns. For this reason, we continue to purchase the latest technology and develop innovative and accessible programs to expand the already vital women's services offered here.
