Wadley offers the services of an expert, experienced team for cardiac surgery. When open heart surgery is required, Wadley’s specialized heart team is ready, with board certified cardiothoracic surgeons and a highly experienced surgery staff, allowing patients and their families to remain in familiar surroundings, close to home before, during and after surgery. A designated heart suite in Wadley’s Surgery Department ensures high quality care is maintained.
Following open heart surgery, patients are closely monitored in Wadley’s Intensive Care Unit. Once they heart surgeon determines the patient is ready, they are transferred to the hospital’s Cardiac Telemetry Unit on the same floor for the remainder of their hospital stay.
Cardiovascular surgical treatments include:
- Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG), including the off-pump procedure
- Minimally invasive CABG, including endoscopic vein harvesting
- Valve repair, valve replacement
- Robotic assisted procedures
- Minimally invasive techniques
Vascular Surgery
Vascular surgery is dedicated to the care of patients with diseases of the vascular systems (blood vessels), particularly those problems that require surgical treatment. The body's intricate network of arteries, veins, and even thinner blood vessels, can suffer from a wide range of medical disorders. Our physicians bring their joint expertise to the diagnosis and treatment of every kind of vascular condition.
Vascular surgical treatments include:
- Carotid artery surgery for the prevention of stroke
- Treatment of aortic aneurysms
- Bypass surgery to save limbs
Thoracic Surgery
Wadley's thoracic surgery specializes in the treatment of diseases of the chest, including disorders of the esophagus, lungs, tuberculosis, chest wall deformities, cancer, myasthenia gravis, chest wall and mediastinum. Our program has special interest and expertise in tumors of the lung and esophagus.
Thoracic surgical treatments include:
- Lung resection
- Treatment of lung cancer
- Repair of chest wall abnormalities

| MEET SYLWIA KARPINSKI, M.D. She is a board certified cardiovascular surgeon. She is now residing in Texarkana, and as an innovator, she is the first of many faces who will combine their medical expertise to create the Wadley HeartCare Network. Her specialties include aortic and valve surgery as well as all aspects of non-cardiac, minimally invasive thoracic surgery. She received her degree from Ross University and completed her residency at St. Agnes Hospital and Tufts University Medical Center. Her new office will be located at 1002 Texas Boulevard, Suite 322. Meet Michael Sheridan, M.D.Dr. Sheridan is a board certified cardiothoracic surgeon who has chosen Texarkana to reside and practice medicine. As an innovator, he is one of many faces who will combine their medical expertise to create the Wadley HeartCare Network. Dr. Sheridan is an exceptionally skilled surgeon specializing in open heart surgery and all aspects of thoracic surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas in Houston and completed his residency at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston and Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
